PALMER YOUTH BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
P.O. BOX 6, THORNDIKE MA 01079
In order to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus and/or from games being cancelled, all participants, coaches, and spectators are required to follow these procedures and do their part to have a safe and successful season. The league exists strictly to allow kids to be able to play basketball.
Participation in PYBA is voluntary. Participation in team sports can increase you or your child’s risk of contracting COVID19. It is PYBA’s goal to minimize these risks to every participant.
Coaches will contact the PYBA board members within 24 hours of a positive test result on their team. Also within 24 hours, a general message will be distributed to parents that there was a positive on the team and to monitor for symptoms. This information will remain confidential and only be disclosed to the Board of Health for tracking purposes, if requested. Board Contacts are Joe Nompleggi 413-813-9224, or Erin Braden 413-209-0419.
Masks and hand sanitizer will be available courtesy of PYBA. Encourage hand sanitizing before entering the gym. Coaches will also have the team sanitize at water breaks. Coaches sanitize balls and cage at end of practice with provided disinfectant. Please contact PYBA for additional supplies, if needed.
Everyone must enter and exit the facility utilizing the one way traffic pattern as outlined by roped off areas.
Teams are not allowed to congregate in common areas before, between, or after games.Immediately following your scheduled game(s), teams are required to leave the facility/event right away. New teams cannot enter until your team has cleared out. Even with a game or two off between games, teams are required to leave the facility.
All spectators (2 years and older), coaches, and players will be required to wear face coverings at all times. You will not be able to gain admission without a face covering. Failure to wear a face covering properly will be given one warning before being escorted out of the facility. This is a zero-tolerance policy. Games will be forfeited should this policy not be kept. Masks should be worn over the mouth and nose.
Coaches are responsible for the actions and cooperation of their team and parents. A warning will be issued at first, followed by 60 seconds of game stoppage for the coach to get his/her team and parents to comply, then the game will be forfeited.
Program participants will not share water or food between non-family members.
Coaches will receive a welcome packet that will list all guidelines for the program. Coaches will be responsible for getting the information to their team(s).
Programs may be paused or canceled with the recommendation from the local health department.
Proactive communication will be used should changes/adjustments to programs that need to be made via team sideline, email, the PYBA website, and Facebook page.
There will be no post-game handshake, but should wave and tell the other team “good game.” Teams should avoid close huddles as much as possible.
Failure to follow these guidlines may result in loss of use of the facilities at Converse Middle School and as a result, cancellation of the season
Response Plan for PYBA
1. What should I do if a participant discloses that they or someone in their household might have been exposed? PARTICIPANT MAY STAY IN PROGRAM.
Participants should:
Self-monitor for symptoms
During this time, participants are allowed to continue in the program until the person they are in close contact with tests positive or the participant personally experiences symptoms at which time they should stay home and follow #2 or #3.
2. What should I do if a participant discloses or it is determined that they have been in close contact (6ft for 15 minutes or more) with a person who tested positive for COVID-19? PARTICIPANT REMOVED FROM PROGRAM
(Note: If the participant has a parent/sibling in our program, the parent/sibling also must be removed.)
Self-quarantine for 10 days from the last day they were in contact with the person that tested positive

4. Can I require a child to go home (or stay home) if he or she is sick or experiencing symptoms or has other illness symptoms? Yes, children who are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or any other illness symptoms, should NOT be attending practices/games.
Any coach or board member may enforce this rule.
If the child is already onsite, the coaches should contact a parent/guardian for immediate pick up. Follow guidelines in #3 if the participant tests positive. If the player/coach remains negative they may resume participation once symptoms subside, or within 5 days of negative test if providing proof of full vaccination.
